Cherry Ridge Now Offering Enhanced Living as Another Level of Care
March 1, 2011
Cherry Ridge, a St. Ann’s Community in Webster, has been approved by the Department of Health to offer Enhanced Living within The Glen (Cherry Ridge’s assisted living). Cherry Ridge is one of only a few communities in the Rochester area that can offer this level of care which provides new and existing residents the opportunity to age in place. The enhanced assisted living services began to be offered in January, and include all assisted living services previously provided with the addition of physical assistance of another person for: transferring, walking, climbing or descending stairs, managing medical equipment or managing incontinence. Traditional assisted living will continue to be offered.
Mike Seelig, Vice President of Housing/Administrator, said, “We are truly happy to be able to offer another level of care so that residents may continue to live as independently as possible, with the support and compassion they deserve. Enhanced living enables assisted living residents who need a higher level of care to remain in the same setting and with the same people here at Cherry Ridge. This enhanced level of care is also available to new members of our community. It complements the existing high quality services provided in The Glen (assisted living) and Rainier Grove (memory care).”
Seelig went on to say that once the construction of Cherry Ridge’s skilled nursing center is complete in 2012, Cherry Ridge will be one of only a few senior living communities in Western New York to offer a full continuum of services on one campus. “At that time, Cherry Ridge will provide independent living, assisted living, enhanced living, memory care, transitional care and skilled nursing. Having all these care levels on one campus provides great benefits to residents. They are able to remain on the same campus as their needs change, and if a spouse needs a higher level of care, the two can still be near one another.”
Cherry Ridge currently provides independent living cottages and apartments, assisted living, memory care, and now, enhanced living. Cherry Ridge is a part of St. Ann’s Community’s larger continuum of care which provides numerous options for seniors.

St. Ann's Community to Build a New Transitional and Palliative Care Center in Irondequoit and a New Long Term Care and Transitional Care Center at Cherry Ridge
January 25, 2011
The initial site work has been completed, and construction is underway on St. Ann’s Community’s Irondequoit and Webster campuses. A new building on St. Ann’s Irondequoit campus will house a transitional care center with 72 beds and a palliative care center with 10 beds. A new building on St. Ann’s Cherry Ridge campus in Webster will house a long term care center with 60 beds and a transitional care center with 12 beds. The construction is expected to be completed and the buildings occupied by March 2012.
Betty Mullin-DiProsa, President and CEO of St. Ann’s Community said, “Over the past several years the Board of Directors and Leadership of St. Ann's Community have come together to set a new direction. We launched ‘Caring for the Most Important People on Earth,’ a campaign focused on updating our Person-Centered model of care, while building new, state-of-art skilled nursing facilities both in Irondequoit and Webster. These skilled nursing centers will not only enable us to provide more comfortable and sophisticated care, but care where the patients and residents are served in an atmosphere which creates a sense of home. Country kitchens will be on each floor, as will hearths and large common areas. They will resemble homes that you or I live in.”
Mullin-DiProsa went on to say, “We are expanding our Transitional Care Program to respond to the growing need for older adults seeking expert rehabilitation, medical and nursing services following hospitalization for surgery, stroke, neurological, cardiac and other medical disorders. The goal of Transitional Care is to return our patients home, to their own homes, and to help them become as independent as possible. Our Irondequoit campus will also see expansion of our Palliative Center for Caring, providing expert clinical service and support to patients and their families in their final days in a home-like atmosphere of dignity, sensitivity and comfort when it matters most. Over the next several years we will be making important improvements and renovations, providing unit-based kitchens and living rooms to St. Ann's Home as well. Our Webster campus, Cherry Ridge, will have a full continuum of care, from independent senior housing to skilled nursing and transitional care. Construction is in full swing, and with the help of our many supporters, we anticipate the buildings to be open and occupied in March 2012.”
